Tweed Palliative Support wins top Business Award
Tess Thompson, Sue Evans, Deirdre Stewart, Liza Nagy & Meredith Dennis
Cancer support and palliative care not-for-profit organisation Tweed Palliative Support (TPS) has won 2015 Best Community or Social Service Award and the top 2015 Best Business in Tweed Award at the recent Business Excellence Awards Tweed Shire (BEATS) ceremony.
BEATS Coordinator, Natascha Wernick, explained why TPS won the top award:
“Liza Nagy, the TPS National Project Manager wrote an outstanding application. The Southern Cross University judging panel felt that it strongly presented the successful and inspiring events, partnerships and advocacies achieved throughout the previous year, as well as the enormous fundraising efforts undertaken, including the operation of their Murwillumbah Op shops to be able to open one of NSW’s first community hospices, Wedgetail Retreat, in February 2015. Tweed Palliative Support generates a tremendously good feeling in the community through their free cancer support and palliative care services. A very deserving category and overall winner,”
“We are all absolutely thrilled to have won in our category and honoured to be named the ‘2015 Best Business in the Tweed’. Although the application covered our achievements over the past year, we are an organisation with a rich and long 17-year history in the Tweed. The Management Committee, Volunteers, Nursing staff and National Project Manager have worked very hard to get us to this stage.
“Tweed Palliative Support provides free cancer support and palliative care services to over 1200 Tweed Shire residents and their families each year. The Tweed Shire has the state’s highest incidence of some cancers and has a growing number of people of all ages living with a life-limiting illness. We work in partnership with the local health service, as well as the state and national palliative care organisations to offer home-hospice, live-in hospice, volunteer training, education and Sunshine Day support.
“We are not as yet government funded and encourage people to go to our websites, see what we do and to donate what they can. We continually need donations, business sponsors, bequests and patronage of our Murwillumbah Op shops to continue our free services,” she added.
National Project Manager Appointed
We are excited to announce that Healthcare Project Management consultant, Liza Nagy, was appointed our new National Project Manager in June 2013. Liza comes to TPS and Wedgetail Retreat with over 15 years of national and international experience mainly in corporate marketing and public relations. You can read about some of her new Donation Appeal and logo/website projects below.
NBN Commercial and Donation Appeal
The Wedgetail Retreat Donation Appeal commercial on NBN is up and running. We urgently need a hand to fund the wages for Nursing staff at the Hospice so that we can officially open. Watch it on our website. Thank you for donating what you can.
Spotted something different about us? We have a new logo for Tweed Palliative Support Inc and Wedgetail Retreat. The TPS Butterfly has been modernised and the Soaring Eagle looks great beside Wedgetail Retreat. People have told us that they ‘love’ them.
What do you think about our two new websites for Tweed Palliative Support and Wedgetail Retreat? They have been designed to reflect the new logos and have some exciting new features. They commenced in October 2013.
Look out for our Christmas Cards, they have a beautiful Peace Dove on the cover. Available in packs of 10 at our Op Shops and in selected outlets. Contact us for more information.
